The president and four footballers of Palmas Fútbol y Regatas, a club in the fourth division of Brazilian soccer, died this Sunday in a plane crash along with the pilot of the aircraft in which they were traveling to Goiás to play a match, team sources reported. .
The accident occurred in the morning of this Sunday. The plane, a charter hired by the club, crashed moments after taking off from an airstrip in the Luzimangues district, in Puerto Nacional, a municipality located 60 kilometers south of Palmas, capital of the Amazonian state of Tocantins. The aircraft ended up hitting the ground in a thicket just after the head of the runway.
Palmas was heading to Goiânia, where he would face Vila Nova for the Green Cup. In the social networks of the club he had published in the last hours images of the last training carried out this Saturday in Tocantins. The match was scheduled for this Monday afternoon, in Goiânia. But Vila Nova himself issued an official statement lamenting the accident suffered by Palmas and showing his collaboration so that the commitment is postponed.
