We are news, stiff information, with the same format in its writing, without delving into the investigation.
There is fear and silence, plus a notable disinterest on the part of society. We’re alone.
Our voices are not heard, our dead are not moved.
Last week Dutch journalist Peter R. de Vries, who according to the international press was the best known and most prestigious reporter on criminal investigations in the Netherlands, was shot dead while leaving a television program.
A tragedy that hardens and maintains the mourning between journalists. Something similar happened on May 15 (2017), when the renowned Sinaloan journalist Javier Valdez Cárdenas fell, who dared to denounce the drug cartels.
His reporter work, taken to books, finally caused his death in the middle of the street in front of the weekly Río Doce in Culiacán. Here, as in that of the Chihuahuan reporter Miroslava Breach, pressure from colleagues and groups made the authorities act and, after long processes, they sentenced the confessed murderers.
The apprehension and sentence of the intellectual responsible is missing.
In Coahuila, there is this record of murdered journalists:
Juan Nelcio Espinoza Menera, (August 21, 2020, in Saltillo).
Daniel Alejandro Martínez Bazaldú (April 24, 2013, in Saltillo).
José Valdés (January 6, 2006, in Sabinas.
Rafael Ortíz Martínez, (July 8, 2008, in Monclova).
Valentín Valdés Espinoza (January 8, 2010, in Saltillo).
Rodolfo Ochoa Moreno, (February 9, 2011, in Torreón).
Daniel Alejandro Martínez Bazaldúa, (April 24, 2013, in Saltillo).
Gerardo José Padilla Blanquet, (April 30, 2013, in Saltillo).
Jesús Tapia Rodríguez, (January 5, 2015, in Parras de la Fuente).
Eduardo Herrera Sáenz, (August 22, 2015, in Piedras Negras.
Salvador Guerrero Álvarez, from the founding family of La Opinion – today this newspaper – considered the first journalist to be assassinated in Coahuila.
It was in Torreón in 1942.
Plus the disappearance of Cuauhtémoc Ornelas Campos, on October 4, 1995, in Torreón, a police reporter.
Eliseo Barrón Hernández (May 26, 2009), was assassinated in Gómez Palacio.
A stale mourning.
