The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has developed a draft order regulating the procedure for monitoring compliance with traffic rules, according to which the traffic police will be able to record dangerous driving and talking on a mobile phone while driving while conducting covert surveillance on the roads. This was announced on Saturday, June 5 TASS…
The document notes that traffic police officers who carry out covert surveillance and use a patrol car without a special color scheme for this are not required to wear a uniform, but in this case they cannot stop cars and draw up protocols, but must record the violation and transfer information to other squads.
The draft order specifies that if, during covert supervision, employees are dressed in uniforms, then they can independently carry out the necessary administrative actions provided for by law.
On May 30, the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Vasily Shpak, said that the department was discussing with the traffic police a proposal to forcibly equip drivers with alcohol locks for cars who had previously been prosecuted for drunk driving.
