The hugely popular Toyota Yaris it is increasingly European thanks to the official announcement of the start of the second assembly line on the continent. The Japanese brand has in fact inaugurated operations at the Kolin plant, in the Czech Republic: the cars destined for the European market will depart from there, alongside those produced by the Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) plant in Valenciennes.
Toyota has invested more than 180 million euros in the expansion of the Kolin plant to enable the production of vehicles on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) B platform, and indeed the same system will also be set up to mount the new Aygo X. The introduction of a second model marks an important milestone for TMMCZ (formerly TPCA) after it was transferred into full ownership of Toyota Motor Europe in January 2021.
Toyota’s investment also enables production of hybrid vehicles at TMMCZ, reflecting the success of the Yaris Hybrid, which accounts for 80% of Yaris’s sales mix in Europe. The hybrid powertrains are produced at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland, in Wałbrzych.
“Over the past three years, we have built new production areas, established new logistics routes, installed new technologies and, most importantly, welcomed nearly 1600 new employees to our factory. I would also like to express my gratitude to our valuable external suppliers and partners in the region for their great cooperation and continued support“, he has declared Koreatsu Aoki, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic.
“The start of production in Kolin represents a step forward for TMMCZ’s future as it begins to produce our best-selling car in Europe. Toyota’s European sales target is 1.5 million vehicles sold by 2025 and Yaris will play a key role in achieving this target. The introduction of TNGA and hybrid powertrains in TMMCZ is in line with our strategy across the region“Said Marvin Cooke, Executive Vice President Manufacturing of Toyota Motor Europe.
