After months and months of waiting, too Toyota entered the electric car market with the launch of the bZ4x SUV. A model on which the Japanese carmaker has great ambitions, since it represents a bit of the company’s calling card for this segment. This was also admitted by the CEO of Toyota’s Italian division, Luigi Luca ‘, who exalted the dual role which will have to play the first battery-powered model of the Japanese brand.
“On the one hand, it confirms ours multitechnological approach that we have been traveling for some time. We are very strong on the hybrids, we have the hydrogen Mirai but on the battery electric we had a limited presence, apart from the Lexus UX which however does not have a dedicated platform. Therefore, the bZ4x, the first car with its own platform, strengthens our credibility and commitment in this area. – his words to the microphones of Repubblica – The second element, on the other hand, concerns the competence and strength of Toyota in the world of hybrids that we want to confirm also in pure electric “. The CEO of Toyota Italia wanted to clearly reiterate the concept of a multi-technological approach: to achieve the goal of zero emissions along the entire production chain, Toyota will rely on various technologies, from hydrogen batteriesaccording to the different contexts in which it will operate.
“Some technologies are more suitable in some places and others less so – added Luca ‘- The battery electric car in the Russian steppes or the Middle East will not be able to work. Hydrogen, on the other hand, is certainly more suitable for heavy transport. In the same way, today hybrids and plug-in fully find their space with 80% of sales because they meet the needs of motorists ”. And pure electric? According to the number one of the Italian division of Toyota it will still take some time: “Today, in order to access an electric model, you have to spend more than for other solutions. When the cost of batteries decreases, the scenario will change too. Cost we commit to cut down by 50% within the decade. Then, when the infrastructures grow and the energy produced is truly green, everything will be able to function at its best “.
