The women’s soccer team faces Finland this Tuesday (22), at 14:30 (Brasília time), for the last round of the International Tournament of France. The friendly competition serves as a preparation for the Copa América, between July 8 and 30, in Colombia. The match will be played at the Michel D’Ornano stadium in Caen, which is also the stage for previous commitments for the tournament.
The Brazilians add one point, from the 1-1 draw with Holland, last Wednesday (16). Last Saturday (19), the commanded of the technique Pia Sundhage were defeated by France, by 2 to 1, in a comeback. The hosts lead the competition with six points, from victories over Brazil and Finland (5-0, on Wednesday, at the Océane stadium, in Le Mans). The Dutch appear in second, with four points – they defeated the Finns 3-0 on Saturday, also at Le Mans.
Despite not having more chances of title, the canary team disputes with Holland the vice-championship. For that, Brazil has to beat the Finns and hope for the rivals to lose the French in the duel at 17:10, in Le Mans. In this scenario, the fight for second place would be goal difference, as both teams would have four points. The Dutch, in turn, will be champions if they beat the hosts, who play for a tie.
The final position in the friendly competition, however, is not Pia’s priority. This Monday (21), at a press conference, the coach made it clear that her concern for the clash with Finland is to see the selection have more speed in decision-making and pass hits in the offensive construction.
“I’ve been talking to the players about how to keep the ball more. They are very technical, but they are not yet playing for their clubs this season, this is one of the reasons for so many passing errors. Also, when you play against good teams like Holland and France, you need to reverse the game faster and that starts from the goalkeeper, and we carry the ball until we are sure we have spaces. We have to follow what we’ve been working on, having more games like these will be very important for us to fine-tune this game inversion and complete the passes”, analyzed the Swedish technique.
As in the duel against France, Pia indicated that he will make changes to the starting lineup. In the previous match, the coach made five changes in relation to the team that started the game with Holland, promoting the entries of goalkeeper Lelê, side Tamires, defender Rafaelle, midfielder Angelina and striker Marta. They replaced, respectively, Lorena, Fê Palermo, Daiane, Duda and Geyse.
“They [Finlândia] are good at set pieces and this will be a good training to know if we are doing the right marking. It will also be a new chance to test new players, some have played for many minutes, others not so much”, concluded Pia.
