San Giovanni di Fassa – At around 1:10 p.m. on Sunday (July 21), the emergency call came in to the mountain rescue station in Alta Val di Fassa (Italy). A team was immediately dispatched to the 2,600-meter-high Ombretta Pass in an Alpine Rescue helicopter. Drama in the Dolomites at an altitude of 2600 meters: hiker slips on snow
The American was with a group of five on trail 612 near the Ombrettola Pass in Val di Fassa in the Dolomites. The 56-year-old was the first in the group to cross a strip of snow – without the necessary equipment. In doing so, the woman slid 80 meters into the depths.
The helicopter then hovered over a scree area. The injured tourist was brought on board the helicopter with a winch and then flown to Cavalese Hospital. However, the mountain rescue team’s mission was not yet over.
Her five companions then abandoned the hike. The group was accompanied on foot to the Contrin refuge. The transfer on foot took place during the storm, according to the mountain rescue service. One man (65) in the group slipped and injured his hand in the fall. A mountain rescue vehicle then brought the entire group from the Contrin refuge to the valley. The injured American was handed over to an ambulance, it is said.

At around 3 p.m., despite the storm, a rescue operation was carried out for a motorcyclist from Poland who had had an accident. At 5 p.m., a child with cramps in a mountain hut urgently needed help. He was stabilized and brought down to the valley.
