Tourism The planning of Christmas holidays has become speculative as Europe re-tightens restrictions: Munich cancels Christmas market, ban on unvaccinated bars in the Netherlands

Many countries are introducing restrictions on unvaccinated people. The EU corona passport allows you to travel to other EU countries, but you should be prepared for surprises in the face of a rapidly changing disease situation.

From Europe has become the crown battle of several and patchwork of changing practices. The regulations and guidelines that came into force in different countries last week alone show that the planning of a Christmas holiday trip, for example, has become an unforeseen speculation.

Many European families had certainly booked a trip to visit Munich’s world-famous Christmas market. Last Friday at the mayor of a German city Dieter Reiterilla there was “bitter news” for both tourists and local entrepreneurs: the Christmas market, which has been held since the 14th century, will be canceled for the second year in a row.

The Christmas market was scheduled to begin this Monday. The last-minute cancellation underscores how quickly disease situations affect the decisions of authorities and policy makers, and how difficult it is to assess the situation in any country even in a couple of weeks.

For example The Irish government announced in September that people could start returning to work in stages and with caution.

Last Friday, the country’s government announced that the previous policy would be lifted for the time being. Now you can only go to work if it is absolutely necessary. The new regulation aims to reduce corona infections.

Austria, on the other hand, hit the country at the beginning of last week from people who had not been partially vaccinated, until the government announced that society’s exclusionary measures would affect the entire population from the beginning of this week. In February, the country will be forced to vaccinate, the first in Europe.

The restaurant was closed in Vienna, Austria on Monday.

Interest rate restrictions have also led to large-scale demonstrations across Europe. In the Netherlands and Belgium, for example, weekend demonstrations became violent.

In the Netherlands, there is a partial interest rate ban, which, for example, significantly restricts the opening hours of shops and restaurants. The closure began on the second Saturday of the week and is scheduled to last at least three weeks.

The country is currently considering measures to prevent unvaccinated people from entering bars and restaurants.

Restrictions on unvaccinated residents alone have been introduced or are being planned in several other countries.

In some parts of Germany, curfews have been introduced for those who have not been vaccinated. In the state of Saxony, the ban on the movement of unvaccinated people is tied to the number of cases of the disease.

Greece prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a TV speech last week that unvaccinated people will be denied access to public interiors such as movie theaters, restaurants and gyms even if they have a negative test result.

“This is indeed an unvaccinated pandemic. Greece is suffering from unnecessary loss of life for the simple reason that we do not have the same vaccination coverage as other European countries, ”Mitsotakis said.

About 61% of the total population of Greece has received a full coroner vaccination. More than 17,300 corona deaths have been recorded in the country of 11 million since the beginning of the pandemic.

The restaurant was closed in Athens last Tuesday, albeit not forced by corona restrictions, but as a protest by a restaurateur against a negative corona test certificate required of customers.

Although corona restrictions vary greatly from country to country, the unifying factor being that travel to EU countries is generally successful with an EU corona passport. It can also be given to an unvaccinated person.

“In order not to discriminate against non-vaccinated people, the EU digital corona certificate also covers test certificates and certificates for people who have recovered from coronary heart disease. So everyone can benefit from the EU’s digital corona certificate, ”the European Commission said.

However, departures are advised to review each country’s up-to-date interest rate regulations, as EU countries have the option of introducing travel restrictions. Information on each country is available, for example On the EU website.

However, the information on the site should be treated with caution and should be considered as indicative. In the case of Finland, for example, the text of 19 November states unequivocally: “Important: Finland requires an EU digital corona certificate when going to public places such as bars, restaurants, museums, swimming pools, large events and some public transport.”

However, it can be seen from the additional information link that this is a conditional order linked to the disease situation and the resulting restriction decisions.

Finns may have difficulty in perceiving the rules that prevail in the country. The casual tourist can be expected to find it even more difficult.

On the Government’s website, you will find that there are many things involved in traveling uncertainty, even though there is in principle free movement in the EU.

“The requirements of different countries may also vary at the EU’s internal borders.
