Tourism Lapland’s tourism industry awaited gloomy new interest rate restrictions: “If we could work in December, it would save a lot”

There are fears that tour operators will not make trips because it would be difficult for hotel guests to eat.

Lapin tourism companies were waiting for government decisions on new tough interest rates on Tuesday night.

According to HS, the corona passport would be phased out from 30 December for two weeks.

This would mean that, for example, restaurateurs and event organizers would no longer be able to circumvent opening and drinking restrictions with a corona passport. The restrictions should not come immediately, but in just over a week, and the reason for this is Lapland’s Christmas tourism.

CEO of Lapland Hotels, which dominates the Lapland hotel industry Ari Vuorentausta says that in abundance a one-week postponement of restaurant restrictions would help the tourism industry move forward, but not the overall situation.

“Tourism in Lapland does not end until Christmas but continues steadily throughout the winter, albeit at slightly lower volumes,” Vuorentausta said before the government’s final decisions were known.

Government in the evening negotiated the staggering of restaurant opening hours based on different options. The strictest option was to close the restaurants completely at 6 pm so that they would not even sell food.

“This restriction would cause infinite difficulty in feeding and catering to customers. I don’t know how to deal with that. There are fears that tour operators will pull down their production because dining would be unreasonably difficult, ”says Vuorentausta.

Vuorentausta says that food restaurants are important for tourism services and opening hours later than six o’clock would allow tourism to be maintained.

“International and domestic customers are in the day’s activities and are not eating dinner at five. Takeway products do not work in hotels because hotel rooms are not designed to cook. ”

Lining also fears that a two-week interest-free period would have a major impact on customers ’travel decisions.

“Customers have already booked their holidays in Lapland, and charter flights are continuous series, so the restrictions affect both individual customers and air traffic.”

Lining background points out that charter flights are based on aircraft importing and exporting customers. Interruptions on charter flights would erode the profitability of operations.

The hotel manager also suspects that a two-week break from the corona passport will not last for two weeks.

“Another fear factor is uncertainty because the restrictions have been there for a week or two at first, but have continued since then. Uncertainty really makes it very difficult to do business, ”says Vuorentausta.

From Rovaniemi Entrepreneur at Santa Park Arctic World Ilkka Länkinen says postponing restaurant restrictions until December 30 would help the company during the Christmas season.

His company keeps Santa’s home cave, sauna world, hotel and restaurant in Rovaniemi.

Länkinen says that the “high season” of the place is the first two weeks of December and January.

“If we get to work in December, it would save a lot. We would have time to keep out during the best season, even if there is time between the end of the year and the Epiphany, but it may suffer due to health security, ”says Länkinen.

Länkinen says the company would also be able to offer its customers food during a possible two-week interest-free period in January. Such an episode seemed to be planned by the government in the evening.

“We get food as catering to the rooms, but with drinks and drinks it would be interesting.”
