Tourism | Bali introduced a tourist tax

About five million foreign tourists visited the island last year.

in Indonesia one of the world's most popular tourist destinations has introduced a tourist tax. Bali's tourist tax came into effect on Valentine's Day, and it is 150,000 Indonesian rupiah, or about nine euros.

About five million foreign tourists visited the island last year. The tax is an attempt to increase income from tourism so that Bali's “nature and culture” can be better protected, the politicians have reasoned. The tax is also an attempt to curb mass tourism and, among other things, the resulting waste problem, according to a tourism consultancy on the site.

The tax does not apply to domestic tourists or those traveling to other parts of Indonesia. You can pay the tax online, but also at, for example, the airport and port.
