Entities in the tourism, food and entertainment sector prepare a new onslaught in favor of the return of daylight saving time. The objective of the businessmen is to sensitize the Jair Bolsonaro government given the advance of the water crisis and a possible blackout that could take over the entire country.
Daylight saving time was ended by Bolsonaro in 2019. At the time, the president claimed that there was no energy saving with the advance of the time and that the end of the norm would increase workers’ productivity.

With the pandemic and the lack of rain, what is seen is an electrical sector at the limit, with the president himself asking his followers to turn off a light point to save energy. In live on Thursday (26), he even commented that no one is asking, but that if “the majority is favourable”, daylight saving time will be resumed.
In an interview with Poder 360, Paulo Solmucci, president of the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), stated that the energy crisis and the difficulties in the sector to catch up on bills are getting longer and it would be prudent to resume daylight saving time. A survey released by Abrasel this Monday (30) pointed out that in July, 37% of bars and restaurants operated at a loss. Another 34% worked in equilibrium and 29% have already made a profit. The numbers mean improvement compared to June, when 56% had losses
Bolsonaro’s main supporter, businessman Luciano Hang, owner of the Havan stores, went to Facebook to affirm “that the return of daylight saving time is a very important strategy that will bring benefits to society as a whole”.
“With an extra hour in the day, the movement in commerce increases, the occupation in hotels and restaurants, consequently increases the production of industries. Today, more than 70 countries use the measure, demonstrating that it does positively influence the economy. In addition, in this period when we are facing a water crisis, this device is also a way to save electricity”, said Hang on Facebook.
In the post’s comments, all the entrepreneur’s followers criticized the initiative.
