The percussionist and producer Tony Succar, winner of two Latin Grammys, made a lightning visit to Peru and highlighted that our country embraces its own artists regarding the three days in a row that Group 5 packed the National Stadium. “Group 5 is an eminence and the important thing is that they continue to contribute and do not limit themselves. “You have to dream big and you have to take risks, that's what's important,” said the artist who has just released an album that he produced for Sheila E., the renowned American singer, drummer and percussionist, called 'The Queen of the percussion'.
Precisely, last year, Sheila E. Accompanied by legendary former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, she made history as the first solo percussionist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “The album just came out a few days ago. She is a tremendous artist. In that album there are figures such as: Víctor Manuelle, Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa and there is also my mother (Mimy Succar). “I'm always active,” said the talented musician who was invited to be part of the new Papa Johns campaign.
What did Tony say about his mom?
“I'm on tour and very happy. We have just been nominated with my mother for the Grammys (for the album 'Mimy & Tony') and she has just recorded with Gloria Estefan,” he says, proud of his mother who rose to popularity when she was a jury for the talent reality show 'Peru has talent' (Latin). But Mimy had a career of several decades in music before her, which she left to dedicate herself to her home and her children.

“She (Mimy) is very funny, very funny, people are connecting a lot with her, with what we are doing and the truth is that I feel happy because the public reacts in an incredible way. My mom has already surpassed 100 thousand followers in such a short time. A year ago she didn't even have Instagram. What I see through it is that there is power to fulfill your dreams and that is a beautiful thing.”
And when does something of your own come?
I'm already on it. It's been a while since I released an album and I'm already preparing something as a solo artist. There are many projects, but above all I want to continue reaching people's hearts, doing concerts. I'm going to see Peru when something can be finalized.
You said that you see social networks as a way to bring joy, even though they are also used, often under anonymity, to attack and defame.
Yes, unfortunately there is always bad news in the world and what I try to do is combat all that bad energy with positive energies and good stories showing through actions, for example, with my family to show some entertainment. I have also taken advantage of this visit to see my grandfather who turned 99 years old. He is the example of strength and that what one desires can be fulfilled. ❖
