Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics have officially announced the production of a live action TV series Of tomb Raider. It will be published via Prime Video.
The announcement also confirms that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will serve as executive producer and screenwriter of the Tomb Raider series for Amazon.
Above you can see Amazon’s official tweet in which the company writes: “The legacy continues. Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics expand the TOMB RAIDER universe. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be a writer and executive producer of the new series coming to Prime Video.”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge says: “If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she would explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to bring it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as well as many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. With the bats and all.”
Waller-Bridge is best known as creator and actress of Fleabag, always available via Prime Video. It is also present in Indiana Jones and the Quadrant of Destiny.
Amazon wants to go beyond a single series
Deadline revealed last year that the Tomb Raider series was part of a larger universe in production at Amazon which would also include movies and games.
Legendary is also involved as a rights holder; the company is also behind a Tomb Raider anime series coming to Netflix.
The series is executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robbins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, Legendary Television and Crystal Dynamics. Greenblatt and Andolina are consulting producers under their Star Party banner. The series is produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
Speaking instead of video games, the most recent rumors state that the next Tomb Raider game will be a true open world set in India.
