The data for Wednesday 23 February: the positive rate rises to 10.2 but the swabs decrease. Intensive care below 10%
I’m
49,040 new cases of Covid in Italy (yesterday there were 60,029, here the bulletin). Thus rises to at least 12603636 the number of people who have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus (including recovered and died) since the outbreak began. THE deaths today I’m 252
(yesterday 322), for a total of 153,764 victims from February 2020).
The swabs and the scenario
THE total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 479.447, (yesterday they were 603,639, so about 120 thousand more). The the positivity rate rises slightly accordingly and goes to 10.2 (yesterday it was at 9.9). The total cases come to 12,603,758. The discharged / healed in the last 24 hours are 119,280 (yesterday 89,993) for a total that rises to 11,228,571. The number of currently positive: 1,221,423 (down by 70,370 units compared to yesterday) of which 1,208,010 in home isolation.
The health system
Hospital stays in the medical area and in resuscitation are decreasing. The discharged / healed in the last 24 hours are 119,280. The beds occupied in ordinary Covid wards there are 549 fewer than yesterday, for a total of 12,527 hospitalized. The beds occupied in intensive care (TI) are 886, with 81 new entrants to resuscitation (yesterday 95). But in the balance between entries and exits in intensive care today there are 10 fewer beds. Come back below the 10% alert threshold the percentage of ICU beds occupied by patients with Covid-19. The Agenas data updated to February 22, in fact show a decrease of 1% compared to the previous day, which brings the value back to 9%. On the other hand, employment in non-critical medical departments remains stable at 20%
The vaccination campaign
I’m 133,468,339 doses of vaccine against Covid-19 administered so far in Italy, 99% of those delivered, equal to 134,879,045. The people who have completed the vaccination cycle are 48,111,713 equal to 89.08% of the over 12 population. What emerges from the bulletin on the progress of the vaccination campaign, updated at 06.17 today. 37,077,283 additional / booster doses were then administered to 84.88% of the population potentially subject to such administrations, who completed the vaccination cycle for at least four months. 49,251,357 people have received at least one dose, equal to 91.19% of those over 12
. As for the administration to the audience aged 5-11, the total with at least one dose amounts to 1,345,960 (36.81%), while 1,056,205 (28.89%) have completed the vaccination cycle.
The victims*
The number of deaths is still high (255): Italy remains in Europe second for the number of Covid deaths (after Russia) according to the picture drawn by the latest weekly bulletin of the World Health Organization. The region with the highest number of deaths today is Emilia Romagna (29) followed by Veneto (27) Lombardy (18). The record region of deaths would actually be Sicily, but of the 38 deaths reported today (9,348 since the start of the pandemic emergency) only 8 were registered yesterday, while the others refer to previous days (see recalculation at the end) . There are three regions and the PA with zero deaths: Molise, Valle d’Aosta and the autonomous province of Trento.
