This week, the appearance of one of the most remembered programs in radio history turns 80 years old. On August 28th, the first broadcast of the Reporter Esso, daily news also broadcast by National Radio of Rio de Janeiro, turns 80 years old. Presenting itself as an “eyewitness to history”, this historical transmission was the subject of the program’s report Stay tuned, in 2018.
And to listen to excerpts from the most famous “spoken newspaper” in the country between the 1940s and 1960s, recall the episodes broadcast by the frame Radio Makes History, of the program All Voices, which aired on Radio MEC. The first brings a record of a normal edition “of your Reporter Esso“, voiced by anchor Heron Domingues. In the second, you follow the broadcast of the last program on the radio, on the night of December 31, 1968, in which the announcer Roberto Figueiredo gets emotional and cries, when he reads a summary of the main news disseminated over the 27 years of news.
On August 24, it will be 15 years since Pluto was reclassified as a “dwarf planet” (and no longer a planet) by the International Astronomical Union (UAI). In 2015, O Reporter Brazil explained why Pluto’s “demotion” took place.
Another important date in the week is the 60th anniversary of the resignation of Jânio Quadros from the mandate of President of the Republic. The announcement was made on August 25, 1962. At the time, Jânio claimed “hidden forces” were acting against him. The episode was also remembered in 2011 on the show From There to Here.
Soldier and Folklore Day
August 25th is Soldier’s Day. The date is a tribute to the birth day of Duque de Caxias, one of the main patrons of the Brazilian Army. The 22nd of August is Folklore Day. The date is a tribute to the creation of the word “folklore” in 1846 and was the theme of the program History Today in 2017.
The 26th of August is the International Day for Women’s Equality. It is a tribute to the day of approval of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which instituted women’s suffrage. In 2013, the frame another look, of Reporter Brazil, highlighted the importance of the date.
