The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership on Friday accused the BJP of allowing non-Bengali outsiders to dominate the people of the state. But the saffron party dismissed these allegations as ‘baseless and politically motivated’.
TMC charges B J P ‘Anti Bengali is
Senior TMC leader and minister Bratya Basu said in a press conference here that the BJP is ‘anti-Bengali’ and that is why this party ruling at the Center has not included any Bengali in the Union Cabinet since 2014. Basu said, ‘Outsiders who do not know Rabindranath Tagore are dominating the people of the state. We witnessed the violence done by him, which led to the destruction of the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (during the Lok Sabha election campaign in May 2019). ‘He said that the people of the state would never accept the dominance of’ non-Bengali outsiders’.
The TMC leader said, ‘History is witness that no such attempt has ever been successful. There is no scope for this to happen this time as well. He said, ‘They want to dominate us with the help of outsiders. Should we bow our head? Is this written in the fate of Bengalis? ‘
BJP rejected TMC allegations
While dismissing these allegations of TMC, the BJP leadership said that they want to know that the election strategist Prashant Kishore appointed by TMC to strengthen his election prospects is ‘Bengali or non-Bengali’. BJP state unit president Dilip Ghosh said, ‘Our central leaders came here to help us, not to tell us the decree. TMC is talking about outsiders … I ask the party if Kishore is a Bengali. TMC knows that it is going to lose the Legislative Assembly elections. This is the reason why she is adopting such tactics. Elections for the 294-member assembly of West Bengal are expected in April-May next year.
