The coronavirus could have caused the death of Svetlana Leonova, the wife of the first person to walk into outer space, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Alexei Leonov. The widow of cosmonaut German Titov Tamara announced this in an interview with Izvestia on Saturday, November 6.
The interlocutor also shared her memories and opinions about Leonova.
“She was a wonderful woman, reasonable, self-possessed, smart. She gave her last strength to the last, caring for her husband. I’ve never seen her lose her temper. Last time we saw each other at the funeral of Alexei Leonov, because then a pandemic came, ”Titova said.
According to her, Leonova attended the opening of the monument to her husband, where, presumably, she contracted an infection. The woman fell ill after 2-3 days, after which she was hospitalized.
The death of Svetlana Leonova became known earlier on the same day, November 6. She died at the age of 82.
Leonov himself died on October 11, 2019. He was 85 years old. The cosmonaut died in the intensive care unit of a Moscow hospital after a long illness.
