Although not everyone in Amsterdam will agree, PSV’s sensational victory over Ajax in the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale is the best thing that could happen to the top of the Eredivisie. The sting seemed to have been pulled out of the title fight for the coming years by Ajax, which won the 35th national championship with a whistle earlier this year. But on Saturday, the unleashed PSV convincingly confirmed that nothing could be further from the truth. The title battle has immediately erupted.
For the neutral spectator, PSV’s thump was a godsend in more ways than one. Not only because the team showed that it can still tilt the proportions. The top football that supporters were presented with when they returned to the stadium was very promising for the future of Dutch football. Once again it turned out that Ajax and PSV are pushing each other to greater heights.
