At the Diego Armando Maradona stadium and on date 22 of the Professional League, River thrashed Argentinos Juniors 3-0 in a key duel between two teams fighting for qualification for the 2023 Copa Libertadores, with goals from Juanfer Quintero, Lucas Beltrán and Agustín Palavecino, all in the second half.
The Colombian entered the field of play after 55 minutes of the game, and at 66 he had the chance to open the scoring with a free kick. Palavecino stopped to execute it, but none of that happened: the left-hander took charge of the chance, and converted a real goal, to the post of goalkeeper Federico Lanzillota who could do nothing, beyond the proximity of the ball, due to the power and precision that ball had.
Juan Fernando Quintero is a crack. The left-hander opened a game that seemed complicated thanks to his punch, and once again showed all the talkers that he doesn’t need anything special to be able to show all his magic: he just needs to be put on the field of play, he takes care of the rest .
Quintero also showed that it is not always so important, for certain footballers, to be the fastest, to be the one with the best physical condition, to lead the Cooper test or the passes: there are guys who are different, that simply with a pass, with a execution, with a distinctive touch, can give you victory.
Gallardo knows it well. “Muñeco” is aware of Juanfer’s quality, and he knows that he doesn’t have to play 90 minutes to make a difference. It is better to save it for when the games are defined and wait for the magic of his left foot.
However, all of us who are football fans love to see as much as possible those who play this best. And clearly Quintero is one of them: personally, I am delighted every time the coffee grower enters a field of play. I know that at least something different is going to contribute to my eyes.
Just to be clear: Juan Fernando Quintero always has to play. Touched, off beat, slowed down, injured… you name it. And River fans have to know that they have time to enjoy it, without reproaches.
