Ad considers all coverages, from 2G to 4G; will be the 1st operator to reach the mark in the country, ahead of Vivo and Claro
THE TIM should become, within two weeks, the 1st operator to have telephony coverage in all Brazilian municipalities. The statement was made by CEO Alberto Griselli, in a meeting with journalists this Wednesday (7.Dec.2022). The announcement considers all coverages, from 2G to 5G.
According to Griselli, this puts the operator ahead of its competitors Vivo and Claro. “AND we are prepared for 5G, we have more antennas in use than our competitors combined”said.
Part of TIM’s expansion, with at least one antenna in all municipalities, is due to the purchase of Oi Móvel. The acquired infrastructure meant that it now has its own towers in over 264 cities.
Of course, Vivo and TIM bought Oi’s mobile services in an auction at the end of 2020. The operators concluded the deal in April 2022, with a payment of R$ 15.9 billion. In October, they announced the start of a process at B3’s Market Arbitration Chamber for Oi to return BRL 3.2 billion.
The process is still in the process of defining the arbitrators to mediate the negotiation, said TIM’s Legal Director, Fabiane Reschke, this Wednesday (7.Dec). The expectation is that this step will be completed by February.
Operators contest Oi Móvel’s selling price. They claim that Oi did not make the promised investments and that the customer base is smaller than estimated at the closing of the deal.
regulation of big techs
The proposal of the transitional government to regulate large platforms and telecommunications networks will be on the agenda of “big importance” for 2023, stated the Director of Regulation and Institutional Relations, Mario Girasole.
The executive met with representatives of the Communication technical group on Tuesday (6.Dec).
🇧🇷I strongly believe in the need to start opening an agenda on the imbalance between digital platforms and [operadoras de] nets. It is a global agenda and it seems to me that it is at the top of the priorities [do governo eleito]”, he declared.
