+ Tourist flow in SP will be record in 2024, according to a study by Setur-SP
According to the concessionaire that manages the airport, Fraport, commercial flights will begin operating on October 21. Operations will resume gradually, with 128 daily flights (landings and takeoffs) between 8 am and 10 pm.
The distribution of slots, arrival and departure times, for airlines will be carried out by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and will serve to indicate how many flights each airline will be able to operate initially. Before the temporary closure, Porto Alegre airport received flights from six different companies in the domestic market.
The airport is expected to be able to operate at 100% of its capacity from December 16th.
In works
Salgado Filho airport had to be temporarily closed due to damage caused by floods that hit the state and left the airport runway submerged for 23 days.
In addition to the landing and take-off runway, taxiways and an aircraft apron were included in the airport restructuring process.
In phase 1, damage was cleaned and assessed. In phase 2, scheduled to end in October, the areas needed to resume landing and takeoff operations that were affected will be restored. This includes 1,300 meters of runway (equivalent to 60,000 square meters); 20,000 square meters of Patio 1, where aircraft are parked; and the parking area of Patio 1 (Positions 06 to 011, equivalent to 20,000 square meters).
Phase 3 of the recovery will begin in October, in areas where there is no aircraft movement. Therefore, there will be no interference in the airport’s landing and takeoff operations. This phase is expected to recover 1,200 meters (equivalent to 53,000 square meters) of the PPD.
The pavement will also be milled, preparing it for resurfacing or reconstruction with flexible pavement, depending on the location. This will occur so that, in December, the complete recovery of the 3,200 meters of runway, in addition to the taxiways and apron, will be completed, which are essential for the airport to be able to return to full operations.
