Kitzbühel – The force of the storm cells was felt in Austria, especially in the Alps. Large hailstones rained down from the sky in Tyrol. A violent hailstorm hit Kitzbühel (Tyrol) on Monday evening (May 27). In the middle of early summer, everything suddenly felt like winter. However, there seems to be no end in sight to the crazy weather.
Storm sweeps across Austria – hailstones up to three centimetres in diameter
Hail transformed green fields into a white winter landscape, as can be seen in various photos from Kitzbühel. The hailstones were up to three centimeters in diameter. Cars were also hit by the hail. In addition, heavy rain flooded the streets in a short space of time. Until the storm front moved towards Germany. The extent of the damage is still unclear. In April, however, it was enormous amounts of snow that caused problems in Austria.

Snow is also forecast in the mountains. The snow line here could even drop below 2000 meters in some regions. Holidaymakers beware! Just last weekend, an avalanche buried an important toll road.
The weather service warns of small floods, local flooding, mudslides and power outages caused by lightning. This particularly affects:
- Vorarlberg
- Tyrol
- Carinthia
- Burgenland
- Styria
