Among the victims, Antonio Caggianelli, 33, an established dancer and choreographer. A local man also died. The cars of the group on a trip into the desert crashed into an escarpment. Another Italian passenger was also seriously injured
“Keep dancing up there, jumping from cloud to cloud.”
Hundreds of messages and posts on social media greeted the three Italian dancers, all just over 30, who died yesterday in an accident in the desert of Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia. Antonio Caggianelli from Bisceglie (Bat), Giampiero Giarri from Tivoli (Rome) and Nicolas Esposto, from Agrigento of French origins, lost their lives.
The three were in the Arab country with a company of 10 dancers, all Italian, on tour for the inauguration of a new theater. Yesterday, on the day off, they had decided to go on a hike. On board two cars they reached the desert and on their return, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicles on which they were traveling crashed into an escarpment.
The three Italian dancers and another person died in the accident. Three other Italians were involved in the crash, one with serious injuries and two unharmed. The Farnesina made contact with the families and this morning the relatives of the victims reached Saudi Arabia for recognition.
The world of dance and the communities of origin of the three Italian artists gathered around the pain of the families with messages of condolence and memories of the most recent performances. Caggianelli participated in the latest edition of the Notte della Taranta and, on the facebook page of the Salento festival, he is remembered as “the academic dancer who is the protagonist of the Concertone 2021”.
“Di Antonio – we read in the post -, before each step, before each glance, his smile arrived, as beautiful as the port of his city, Bisceglie”.
«The disappearance of our young fellow citizen pains and saddens us deeply – says the mayor Angelantonio Angarano -. At that age you have so many projects, ideas, enthusiasm, you work to build your future and pursue your dreams, just like Antonio did, with vitality and resourcefulness, making everyone appreciate and love you ».
Even in Cammarata, in Sicily, the mayor Giuseppe Mangiapane says he is “shocked and moved” by the death “of our talented young Nicolas, who was for us all a pride, an example, a boy who carried his art around the world, which pursued its own dreams, and which was making them come true, with so much courage and infinite passion ».
The ecclesial community of San Giovanni Gemini and the oratory Don Michele Martorana remember him as «the son of this land and this community, which saw him grow up within its own walls as the animator of the oratory. Since then, a promising professional dancer, with great passion and love for dance, passing it on to children ».
To remember Giarri, among others, the artistic production agency Daniela Cipriani Entertainment. “Dancer with a sensitive soul and generous professional – reads a post -, with whom in 2020 we shared the experience of the show ‘The Creatures of Prometheus / The Creatures of Capucci of which he was a charismatic interpreter”.
The three dancers had been in the cast of the musical «Add a seat at the table» production of the Brancaccio theater in Rome led by Gianluca Guidi who in a post commented: «Fella, Sarri and Caggia, you were truly three wonderful people. I wanted you an infinite good! ».
