From Milan to Rome, passing through Genoa, there will be over 300 American students who this year will follow our doctors in the ward. Doctors in Italy, the first 100% Italian program that allows foreign students of healthcare faculties to discover the new frontier of made in Italy, medicine, is currently collaborating with three hospitals: the MultiMedica Group in Milan, the Galliera Hospitals in Genoa and the Bio-Medico Campus in Rome. At these locations the fellows, that is the observing students, in addition to experiencing life in the ward also have the opportunity to follow research projects, breathing the innovative air typical of our research institutes, underline the promoters of the project.
“Our goal is to give medicine and the world of health in general an international dimension – says Nadia Neytcheva, co-founder and CEO of Doctors in Italy – The project was born in 2018 and from 2020 it has also become part of the selected excellences from Bocconi 4 Innovation. Thanks to realities like ours, all students enrolled in health professions, mainly from the United States but from other countries, have the opportunity to come to Italy for a minimum of 2 weeks and follow our doctors in the ward as observers, experiencing first-hand what the medical profession is. This experience will leave them both human and professional imprinting. It is in fact a unique opportunity to see a public health system recognized as an excellence worldwide “.
The next generation of doctors – reads a statement – is preparing for an increasingly interconnected world, in which cooperation and community play a central role. This is also confirmed by the scholarship recently awarded by Barack Obama and Brian Chesky of Airbnb (The Voyager Scholarship), to support the international mobility of young Americans who choose a profession for the benefit of the community.
Before the pandemic, 39 thousand American students chose Italy as a destination for study or internships every year. To the resumption of travel, there is added the desire of the new generations to experience life in other countries and broaden their cultural horizons. Italy is to be considered a pioneering place in terms of international education in the medical field. In fact, in addition to short programs such as the Doctors in Italy Fellowship, 13 public and 5 private universities offer medical degree courses in English.
