Five thousand National Guard fighters who guarded the US Capitol after the events of January 6, and rested on its territory, are now forced to spend the night in a nearby garage with one toilet. This was reported on January 21 by the edition Politico…
The National Guard forces were transferred to Washington after the events of January 6, when protesters supporters of ex-President Donald Trump seized the congress building. On Thursday, one of the military said his unit was ordered to leave the Capitol and settle in a multi-level car park.
As a result, his group ended up in a nearby garage with no internet access, with one electrical outlet and one bathroom with two cabins for 5,000 soldiers.
“Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen shook hands with us and thanked us for our service. After 24 hours we were no longer needed and we were evicted to a corner of the garage. We feel monstrously betrayed, ”he stressed.
Another National Guard added that all units have been ordered to set up mobile command centers outside of Congress or in nearby hotels. At the same time, both fighters noted that the reasons for the order were not explained to them.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer promised to investigate what had happened. Senator Martin Heinrich, a Democrat from New Mexico, tweeted that he would personally offer his office to the Guardsmen and promised to find additional space for the military.
On January 6, Trump supporters rioted Washington DC. During the protests, they broke into the Capitol. There were clashes with the police, during which dozens of people were injured on both sides. Five people were killed, including one of the law enforcement officers.
