The proposal of the Public Health Commission clashes with the proposal of Catalonia that there is isolation for these cases
The Public Health Commission has proposed that people who have received a complete vaccination schedule and are close contacts of a positive case, do not need to perform a 10-day home quarantine. However, these people will be told that during this 10-day period they should limit their activities to the essentials, reducing their social interactions “as much as possible”, follow “scrupulously” preventive measures, such as the use of masks, and carry out close monitoring for the possible appearance of compatible symptoms. This has been proposed by the technicians of the Ministry of Health and the Departments of the sector meeting this afternoon in the Commission in which they have reviewed the quarantine recommendations for close contacts in the current context of high incidence and wide circulation of the omicron variant, which is already almost half of the new infections.
This recommendation comes a day after Catalonia approved that close contacts of covid positives, even if they are vaccinated, keep a ten-day quarantine. This measure, in principle, comes into force tomorrow, Thursday in that autonomous community, although the Commission’s proposal goes in the opposite direction.
The Public Health Commission also insists on the importance of accelerating the vaccination of both unvaccinated people over 12 years of age and of booster doses in the most vulnerable groups, as well as accelerating the vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years, who have started receiving the first doses for a week.
Finally, the Commission has not made any proposal on the mandatory use of masks outdoors, limitation of capacity and hours, especially in the hotel industry and nightlife, or the return to teleworking.
Back to class?
On the other hand, to the voices that this week have asked to advance the school holidays to avoid new infections due to the advance of the omicron variant, the proposal to return to telematic classes after the Christmas hiatus has been added today, at least until the situation is more controlled.
UGT, CCOO and CSIF have asked that the Conference of Presidents address tomorrow the “worrying” situation in schools due to the increase in infections in recent weeks, especially in Primary. The directors of Madrid schools themselves, where infections are rampant (11,221 new infections today, the highest number recorded since the pandemic began) have already requested the Ayuso Government to monitor teaching activity online, and CSIF proposes the increase in reinforcement personnel, the provision of technological means and the return to restrictions if the incidence among schoolchildren does not decrease.
