The English Football Association announced in a statement today, Wednesday, the appointment of former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel as coach of the national team. Tuchel will be the third foreigner to coach the England national team after the Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson and the Italian Fabio Capello. The statement explained that Englishman Anthony Barry will assist him.
Mark Bullingham, CEO of the Federation, said: “We are pleased to appoint Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world, and Anthony Barry, one of the best English coaches, to support him.”
Tuchel replaces Lee Carsley, England Under-21 coach, who took charge of the senior national team on an interim basis after Gareth Southgate resigned following the loss to Spain in the 2024 European Championship final.
