Nurse Jorge Ángel recently warned of the risks that using wooden boards can entail, if not done correctly.
This toilet advised having two different ones depending on the food that is going to be cut in it. For example, one for fish, chicken or other foods that are cooked and another for those that are going to be consumed raw. The objective of this is to avoid cross contamination. To clean it and eliminate the bacteria or microorganisms that can proliferate in them, it is best to use hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar in equal parts, let it act for 20 minutes and rinse with plenty of water.
Now, pharmacist Álvaro Fernández, better known on social media as Farmacéutico Fernández, has explained on his TikTok account the consequences that using the dishwasher to clean wooden utensils can have. These appliances are very useful for streamlining household tasks. Without any work you can remove traces of grease and dirt from your plates, glasses and cutlery. Even so, there are some objects, such as pans, pots or teapots, that it is better not to put in it so as not to damage them.
Why shouldn't wood be put in the dishwasher?
Wooden utensils should be washed by hand, firstly because the heat and humidity they must endure in this appliance can swell and deform this material, but there are also other aspects that can affect food safety. As this professional states, “wood has pores, cracks and small holes through which it is easier for microorganisms to survive.”
For this reason, Fernández assures that “if you put them in the dishwasher it is easier for the wood to crack even more, for splinters to appear and for bacteria and other things to sneak in that can cause serious infections. In short, use other types of pots or you have to scrub by hand because the wood in the kitchen can be a little filthy, especially if you put it in the dishwasher,” he says.
