The French police have put the first Alpines A110 into operation. In the coming years, the 253 hp fast cars of Renault’s subsidiary Alpine will mainly be used on the highways to intercept drug dealers and traffic offenders.
The first order includes 26 units of the A110 Pure, the entry-level model in Alpine’s sports car range. Apart from the police decals and the flashing light, the interior of the car has also been slightly modified. For example, an extra screen has been added on the passenger side and we see a device that can operate the light signals and sirens.
Megane RS
The Alpines will eventually replace the Renault Mégane RS models used by the police since 2011. The A110 Pure is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 253 hp and a tractive effort of 320 Newton metres. The car sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 250 kilometers per hour.
Porsche 911 Targa
It is not the first time that the French police have allowed themselves to be crammed into a small Alpine sports car. In the 1960s, the Corps used the original A110, which was much smaller. Until a few decades ago, the police in the Netherlands also drove sports cars on the highway. In most cases this concerned a Porsche 911 Targa.
