World.- The aUnited States space agency known globally as NASA revealed that in early 2031 the mission of the International Space Station will end and demolition will begin.
Through a report, NASA revealed that, although there is still a decade of research and technological development results in the International Space Station, Preparations have already begun to ensure a transition of operations to commercial services.
This action comes in response to direction from Congress, where NASA has decided to communicate goals for the next decade of station operations leading to a smooth transition to commercial services, through actions to develop both the supply and demand in the commercial economy.
“The International Space Station is entering its third and most productive decade as an innovative science platform in microgravity,” said Robyn Gatens, director of the International Space Station at NASA Headquarters.
He added that this third decade is a result of the successful global partnership “to verify human research and exploration technologies to support deep space exploration,” as well as the environmental medical benefit to humanity as the foundation is laid for a commercial future on Earth.
“We look forward to maximizing these space station returns through 2030 as we plan for the transition to commercial space destinations that will follow.” Gatens added.
According to the NASA document, titled, “International Space Station Transition Report”, The aerospace agency is taking the last steps towards the total elimination of the International Space Station.
However, before this happens, NASA revealed that it has signed contracts for commercial modules to be connected to a space station docking port, this due to the fact that the United States industry is developing commercial destinations that will begin to operate. in the late 2020s for government and private sector clients.
