In Spain, 80% of the population is already immunized (with a complete schedule) and Health is making progress to achieve the following objective: 90%. Meanwhile, some groups, such as the elderly in residences or people at high risk, have begun to receive a third booster dose. These are the latest data:
Regarding childhood vaccination (children between 5 and 11 years old) the situation is as follows:
The doses administered are increased and it is also possible to appreciate their effect by comparing the severity of the infections that occur depending on whether or not a person has the complete pattern.
As for the third booster dose, some groups, such as high-risk people and people living in residences, have already started receiving it. A new puncture from Pfizer or Moderna is also administered, in general, to all those over 70 years of age and those who are over 65 will also have it.
Meanwhile, the vaccination plan continues, divided into three stages, which began with the administration of staff in residences, the residents themselves, first-line health and social care workers and the severely disabled. According to the first calculations of the Government, 70% of the Spanish population had to be vaccinated with the complete schedule in summer (about 33.2 million people), a goal that was achieved. The next objective that the Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez put on the table is 90%, but he did not specify on what date.
Thus, the elderly were among the first vaccinated and little by little the percentage of immunization (with the full schedule) among the oldest people has increased to reach 100% among those over 80 years of age. Meanwhile, the vaccination process progresses, reaching younger people each time. The vaccinable population limit is now five years.
It should be taken into account when treating these data that the two-dose vaccines are separated by three weeks (Biontech / Pfizer), 28 days (Moderna) and up to 84 days (Oxford / Astra-Zeneca). It is the Janssen unit dose model that can increase the rate of vaccination.
With all this, in order for the vaccination strategy to continue at a good pace, one of the issues at stake is that new doses continue to arrive in the country and that they can be inoculated soon. Health
provides vaccination data daily based on the information provided by the autonomous communities.
Regarding vaccination in the world, this is the situation in Spain regarding the first positions in doses administered per 100,000 inhabitants:
