The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, is known worldwide for a plan that it developed 10 years ago: keeping its streets free of vehicles.
In fact, in 2016, Ljubllina was listed as the Green Capital of Europe by the Commission European. In addition, this year it was selected, by the same organization, as the best destination of 2022 in the old continent.
It is true that for this European city it is different compared to cities like São Paulo, in Brazil, or Bogotá, in Colombia, since its population does not exceed 300,000 inhabitants.
However, it is a carefully elaborated plan with the aim of becoming a green capital by 2025.

The first decision made by the city authorities so that this initiative could be contemplated was invest in strengthening pedestrian and bicycle paths.
“It is critical that they describe to residents exactly what the plans are and why they are proposing them. At first people are hesitant about the change, but it is easier to accept a situation if the positive aspects are reported“, the Slovenian academic Saša Poljak Istenič tells ‘Vice’.
