The last week was one full of top-notch releases, where we also saw the arrival of the Nintendo Switch OLED. Although we already know how this console fared in regions such as the United Kingdom, many of us were waiting for Famitsu to share its usual information, in order to know the performance of this new model in Japan, and we finally have this information.
According to Famitsu, The OLED Switch debuted with 138,409 units sold in Japan. It is important to mention that this information corresponds to those seen between October 8 and 10. By comparison, the original Switch sold 330,637 consoles at launch, while the Lite version came in at 177,936. Although these numbers may seem low, Nintendo, like Sony and Microsoft, is facing distribution problems in this market due to issues related to the pandemic.
Secondly, Metroid Dread debuted at # 1 bestseller in software with 86,798 units sold. In second and third place is Far Cry 6, which managed to move a total of 50,905 copies between its version of PS4 and PS5.

Editor’s Note:
Considering that Japan has always been strong territory for Nintendo, it’s rare to see that the OLED Switch didn’t sell as much as expected. However, this console is coming at a difficult time for all companies, since manufacturing and distributing any piece of hardware is complicated. Similarly, many people already have a type of Switch, so taking another leap may not be so appealing at the moment.
