About 20 years have passed since the launch of the video game, and the desire to return to Springfield does not diminish.
We are on our way to the 18th anniversary of the launch of The Simpsons Hit & Run, for many the best video game of the animated series created by Matt Groening, but nothing seems to indicate that the industry is about to give us a remastering or remake of the adventure developed by Radical Games. Luckily, the fans are on the job, leaving us a complete recreation in Unreal Engine 5.
Through a video on YouTube, the developer of this adaptation explains the steps he has followed to make this creation a reality. In words collected by GAMINGbible, Reubs explains how using a tool originally intended for GTA: Vice City they were able to extract all the levels to join them and make a fairly recognizable map to the Springfield fans will remember. However, they had to go to external software to improve the textures.
For the character animations they took advantage of the assets of the UE5 store, except with Homer, for which they subcontracted to a Swedish developer. Likewise, they were able to remove the elements of the video game interface without excessive problems. Quite a feat considering the small team in charge.
Will there be a remake of Simpsons Hit & Run?
Not only fans want to see Homer and company back, but also the creators of the video game themselves. “It would be wonderful to go back over how you control the characters, their world, and how to explore each element in detail. There is much more than meets the eye, and working on it would be fascinating, sure, “explained Vlad Cerald, producer of the software, in an interview published in 2019.
One of its developers, Joe McGinn, also spoke in favor of leaving some of his ideas to improve Hit and Run on the graphical and playable level.
In 3DJuegos we also dedicated a special a few months ago to reviewing the best and worst video games of The Simpsons, there have been quite a few.
