The head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, explained that the CEDA Solar Plant is carried out in two phases: the first consists of two Distributed Generation Photovoltaic Systems on the roofs of the CEDA warehouses, which begins in March; and the second, in a Photovoltaic Plant of up to 17 megawatts (MW), which will have an annual production of 25 gigawatts/hour (GWh), and which will begin its installation in May, with the aim that the project is completed in its entirety. at the end of 2022.
The Government of the capital, through the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO) and in collaboration with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), reported that the Photovoltaic Solar Plant of the Central de Abasto of Mexico City (CEDA) is advancing in its first phase with the beginning of the construction of two Distributed Generation Systems, which will be carried out by the company Fortius Electromecánica SA de CV

“This project is within the framework of strengthening the Federal Electricity Commission, strengthening the energy transition, increasing the generation of renewable energies and doing it in such an important space, such as the roofs of the Central de Abasto, is going to show the world the feasibility of using these spaces to be able to generate electrical energy from solar energy”, he said.
The Secretary of Economic Development of Mexico City, Fadlala Akabani Hneide, explained that the CEDA Photovoltaic Solar Plant will have 36,000 photovoltaic modules and 400 million pesos (mp) from the Fund for Energy Transition and Sustainable Use of Energy (FOTEASE) of the Secretariat of Energy (SENER) of the Government of Mexico.
“It has a schedule of 18 months, of which there are only 10 months left to complete the project; that is to say, we started this project eight months ago (…) and also point out that what is going to be avoided, in terms of pollution, is 12,404 tons of CO2”, he commented.
The manager of strategic projects of the CFE, Jorge Musalem, reported that for the realization of the two Distributed Generation Systems, a bidding process was carried out that began on December 17 and concluded yesterday, February 14, with the ruling granted to the company Fortius Electromecánica SA de CV for an amount of approximately 25 million. This project is expected to start operations in the first half of this year.
Jorge Musalem explained that the two Distributed Generation Systems will generate annual savings of around 3.5 million pesos in electricity consumption at the Central de Abasto. Meanwhile, the CFE estimates to pay an annual income of one million 600 thousand pesos to the CEDA for the use of the roofs and that will serve for the maintenance of the CEDA.
Regarding phase two of the project, which consists of building a Photovoltaic Power Plant with up to 17 additional megawatts, the manager of strategic projects of the CFE explained that the call for the tender is expected to be published by the end of March, to receive offers by the end of April. , and be able to issue the contract ruling on May 9.

“And start the work on May 23 for a period of seven months, about 214 days, and put it into operation before the end of the year,” he said.
In addition, he pointed out that as part of the first stage, since July 2021 the CFE’s Corporate Directorate of Engineering and Infrastructure Projects carried out the studies and engineering necessary to be able to call the tenders and eventually carry out the supervision of the installation. of the Photovoltaic Plant and the Distributed Generation Plants.
