The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan), dependent on the Ministry of Consumption, has learned through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (Sciri), of a notification of a food alert transferred by the health authorities of the Community from Madrid. The presence of undeclared sulphites on the labeling of a well-known mustard that is marketed in numerous Spanish establishments has been reported. The affected product is the Original Mustard of the well-known PRIMA brand.
Sulfites are substances derived from sulfur, which are used as preservatives in different types of food and drinks and can cause allergic reactions in intolerant people, so the agency is extremely cautious in this type of case. From Aesan they recommend that those people with allergies to sulfites who may have this product in their homes refrain from consuming it. The consumption of this product does not pose any risk to the rest of the population.
