USA.- The emblematic “digital portal” that virtually connected New York and Dublin has been temporarily turned off due to improper use by some users.
Through social networks, the word “Portal” became a trend after several incidents, including a live broadcast where a woman got naked and the display of inappropriate images such as the burning Twin Towers.
Located next to the iconic Flatiron building in Manhattan and on O’Connell Street in Dublin, these portals have attracted thousands of curious people who they sought to experience the feeling of connection they intended to offer.
However, according to the Flatiron NoMad Partnership, the trade association that hosts the portal on the US side, They have also attracted a “minority” of disrespectful individuals.
In response to these incidentsthe Flatiron NoMad Partnership announced that the portal will remain offline for several days and will be turned on again at the end of the week, after previous pauses during the afternoons and evenings of Sunday and Monday.
These structures, created by Lithuanian artist Benediktas Gylys, They were established with the intention of creating a sense of connection between distant cities.
Gylys plans to add more “windows” to the world after establishing the first sculpture of its kind in Vilnius, Lithuania, connected to the city of Lublin, Poland, in 2021.
The team behind the “Portal” and project partners in Dublin are taking steps to address disrespectful behavior, including software updates to filter out inappropriate content, having staff on site and installing a barrier to protect the work.
In addition, educational tools are being implemented to promote respect and responsibility among users.
