Guamúchil, SInaloa.- After working and receiving academic training in a context where it is necessary to be alert at all times, without stopping to think about personal problems and with hours of hard daily work, medical residents from specialty come to suffer from mental problems that, unfortunately, a large number of these end in suicide commented Deldhy Nicolás Moya Sánchez, national chief of medical residents of the Issste, a young psychiatry student who, together with other health professionals, launched a plan that seeks to curb the rates of suicides in residents.

It is important to point out that the young doctor and psychiatry student is originally from the city of Guamúchil, and it is for this reason that he proudly assumed the position, with the aim of reaching all residents who need it and are distributed in the different states of the country and ventured to leave their nest with the intention of continuing to prepare.

Nicolás Moya pointed out that since the beginning of the pandemic mental problems have increased considerably, including suicide rates, affecting a large number of professionals who are struggling to obtain their specialty.

He said that since the beginning of the contingency, suicide cases have increased by 5 percent, this in the United States, since he argued that in Mexico there is no exact count on the subject.

Similarly, he commented that the number of medical residents with anxiety problems and other mental illnesses grew from 20 to 40 percent in this country.

He added that they are working to implement a project, which is support for the residents, and consists of providing them with a space where they can go to express their needs or problems to a specialist, with the intention of curbing this type of problem, because they commonly face long working days and in the midst of fatigue they continue to attend to patients, besides it is a great burden for everyone to leave their family and be away from the warmth of home, which at the end of the day leads them to suffer from this type of ailment, which they do not are treated in the absence of a program of this type, so in each medical center that houses residents there will be a person who listens to the doctors and directs them to the corresponding area, that is, this program is really broad and does not it focuses only on the area of mental health, but rather seeks well-being, both emotional and physical, something that would benefit professionals and patients.
