The total number of migrants arriving this weekend – specifically this Saturday – to the coasts of the Balearic Islands has risen to 99, after Maritime Rescue intercepted a new boat, with 13 migrants on board, ten miles south of Formentera.
According to the information provided by the Government Delegation, the last rescue took place at 8:08 p.m. this Saturday, when 13 people of North African origin, in apparent good health, were intercepted ten miles south of Formentera.
With these 13 people, the total number of migrants intercepted this Saturday in the lesser of Pitiusas amounted to 39 people, all of North African origin, after arriving in three boats.
Likewise, it must be remembered that, also this Saturday, a total of 60 migrants, also North Africans, were rescued from three other boats, in waters near the coast of the island of Cabrera.
In the middle of this week, on Wednesday, a total of 418 migrants were also rescued in the Balearic Islands. As a result, the Government spokesman, Antoni Costa, demanded from the central government “a change now” in immigration policy, highlighting that the islands were the region of Spain that received the most migratory flow in one day.
