Ciudad Juárez.- The inauguration of the exhibition “Descatrinados: A pictorial journey to the Day of the Dead”, organized by the Institute for Culture of the Municipality of Juárez (Ipacult), took place at the Museum of Archeology and History of El Chamizal (MAHCH). The visual and cultural event celebrated one of Mexico’s most emblematic traditions. The works of the Descatrinados Collective is a group of artists that pays tribute to the late Juarez plastic artist Cecilia Briones Zúñiga, “La Catrina”. The exhibition will remain open until November 5, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the tradition of the Day of the Dead through a variety of artistic styles and techniques. The artists who participated in this exhibition include Darío Rodríguez, Garetta Santiesteban, Nora Marcela Arguijo Longoria, Jesús Arturo Gardea, Verónica Rico, Evelia Peralta, Pianola Garza, Geo Gámez, Susana Alvarado, Eréndira García Fratta, Angélica de la Cruz Núñez, Oschuro , Pablo Castro, Camis Villagrán, Sergio Reyes Salcido, Yair Sandoval, Juan Alavez, Lorena Borja, Patricia Beckman and Mario Ortiz Martínez ‘Mortiz’. Each of them contributed their unique vision of death, with which they created a space for reflection and connection with the cultural meaning behind the works. Visitors appreciated the iconic catrinas, marigold flowers and symbolic elements of the Day of the Dead. The director of Ipacult, Myrna Judith Barajas Martínez, expressed her satisfaction with the high attendance and interest shown by the community. “This event demonstrates the value that culture has in our city and the importance of creating spaces for art and reflection,” said Barajas Martínez. The “Descatrinados” exhibition not only celebrates the memory of those who have left, but also reinforces the cultural identity of Ciudad Juárez, showing the commitment of local artists in promoting their traditions.
