Indonesia.- On June 7, 2024, residents of the village of Kalempang, Indonesia, found Farida’s body, a 50-year-old woman, inside the stomach of a six-meter-long python.
Farida, a mother of four, had disappeared the day before while walking through the forest to sell food at a local market.
Noni, her husband of 55 years, Concerned about his absence, he alerted the locals and they began the search. The next day, they discovered a huge python with a lump in its stomach in the nearby brush.
Fearing the worst, the villagers cut open the snake with a machetefinding Farida fully clothed and covered in slime.
The village head, Suardi Rosi, reported that Noni had suspected the python after finding it in the area where his wife disappeared.
Villagers collaborated to capture and open the reptile, confirming their worst fears. Farida was taken to her home and buried in a religious burial in Pitu Riawa District, South Sulawesi Province.
Noni expressed his deep regret for not having accompanied his wife that day, lamenting the suffering she must have experienced.
Suardi Rosi warned residents to take extreme caution when walking through the forest and recommended that women always be accompanied.
Indonesia is home to a large population of giant reticulated pythons, which thrive in its vast, dense jungles, unlike other Southeast Asian countries where urban development has limited their growth.
