As is known, for some years now Netflix launched a new policy in which they are no longer letting users share their passwords with friends or family who live in other locations, in order for these potential clients to continue contributing to the platform. Strangely, this has not affected them, but rather increased the company’s profits, and with that in mind, rivals in the world of streaming have not been long in trying to imitate these actions.
disney has announced that as of November 12 will begin to restrict your service accounts in Mexicoand possibly throughout Latin America, as part of its policy to prevent the sharing of passwords between different households. Subscribers to the platform have been notified by email detailing that this change derives from the subscription agreement that prohibits this practice.
The company will begin actively monitoring accounts and take measures to prevent sharing between different locations, following the model that Netflix previously implemented. Bob Iger, CEO of Disneyhad already announced in August that this measure would come into force in September, but it will be in November when it officially begins.
In addition to this restriction, Iger also announced an upcoming increase in the price of the service, although it is not yet clear if this increase will affect only users in Mexico or in the rest of Latin America. Restricting shared accounts is a growing trend in the streaming industry, driven by other companies, which already review users’ IP to ensure that use of the service remains within a single household.
