After the release of Half-Life: Alyx in 2020, many have been eagerly awaiting a new game developed by Valve. Now, A recent leak has revealed that the company is working on a 6v6 hero shooter, similar to Overwatchbut with a series of unique elements.
According to Tyler McVicker, a famous insider who shares Valve information, The company behind Steam has been working on a new hero shooter, known as Deadlock since 2018, something that “hundreds” of players have already had the opportunity to try since then. The interesting thing is that this project does not look like a copy of Overwatch. Not only is the aesthetic different, but the gameplay has elements inspired by tower defense. This is what McVicker commented on the matter:
“Wizards, strange creatures and robots. Fast travel via floating rails, similar to Bioshock Infinite. Basically a fast-paced and interesting ADHD game. Combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, Orcs Must Die.
The hero’s design is quite inspired by the Dota universe. The main map refers to a modern steampunk European city (a bit like Half-Life). “Initially, the game had sci-fi elements inspired by Half-Life and Portal, but after a poor response, the development team decided to focus on fantasy.”
In addition to the tower defense elements, The game has an aesthetic that combines medieval and steampunk elements. At the moment there is no official confirmation from Valve, but considering that the game has already been in development for six years, it is likely that the company will confirm the existence of Deadlock in the near future.
The filtration of Deadlock comes to light just when the first evidence of Marvel Rivalsanother hero shooter, despite the popularity of Overwatch has declined in recent years, It seems that there is still a profitable market that is interested in these types of experiences.
Considering the work Valve has done in multiplayer games, such as Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2 and Team Fortress 2, many are excited about the company’s next proposal. On related topics, Valve wants to make a Steam Deck 2. Likewise, the beta of the Steam family plan is now available.
Author’s Note:
Although it seems that we are all tired of hero shooters, in reality there are not many proposals today. Overwatch 2 is the only title of its kind that is popular, so you deliver as Marvel Rivals and Deadlock They are positioned to give a well-deserved variety to this genre.
