Four of the seven detainees have been imprisoned, including the leader of the organization, while the rest have been released with charges
The Alicante Civil Guard, within the framework of ‘Operation Mactol’, dismantled a very active criminal group dedicated to theft from homes and businesses throughout the national territory. The members were arrested in different locations in Alicante and the Region of Murcia. They are accused of 35 robberies with force, as well as the crime of belonging to a criminal group. The competent judicial authority has ordered the imprisonment of four of the alleged perpetrators, including the leader of the group.
In the month of October 2021, after the complaint filed for a robbery with force inside a house in a district of the town of Orihuela, the Territorial Team of the Almoradí Judicial Police observed that it was not an isolated incident, but they were dealing with a traveling group that had increased the number of robberies in homes and businesses in this town and its surroundings, so, in order to clarify the facts, the agents began the said operation.
The leader of the group was a 47-year-old man of Algerian nationality, who was responsible for organizing the rest of the members. He was in charge of the logistics of the crimes and, in addition, he disposed of the loot obtained on the black market. A 48-year-old Spanish man was the one who selected the means of transportation and carried out the transfer of the members of the gang from one place to another. The rest of the components, aged between 23 and 43 years old, all of them of Moroccan nationality, perpetrated the robberies in a coordinated manner. Thus, after the investigation, the agents found out where they hid the stolen objects, being the main base of the gang in the Region of Murcia.
Once the participation of the gang in the robberies committed in various towns in the provinces of Albacete, Alicante, Almería, Jaén and Murcia has been identified and proven, and taking into account the frenetic criminal activity they carried out, and the risk of escape of the investigated, on March 9, an operation was carried out carrying out seven simultaneous searches in the towns of Bigastro, Jacarilla, Orihuela, and Redovan in the province of Alicante, and in the towns of San Javier and Murcia capital.
Given the magnitude of the device and the need to carry out the searches simultaneously, the researchers were joined by the Citizen Security Units of the Commanders (Usecics) of the Civil Guard of Alicante and Murcia, the teams of the Investigation Areas of the Main Posts of the Civil Guard of Callosa and Almoradí, the Roca Team of the Torrevieja Company and the Citizen Security units of the Civil Guard posts of the affected towns.
In order to make it difficult to locate them, the band continually changed their residence.
In order not to raise suspicions and hinder the investigations, they took various security measures, among which the division into subgroups when committing the robberies, the constant changes of location of the residence itself and the use, alternately, of vehicles with those who traveled to commit the crimes, and who were previously abducted for that purpose. The danger of the band was patent. The agents have intervened, among numerous effects, a revolver-type short weapon.
It is important to note that one of the searches carried out by the agents took place in a lodging establishment, in the town of Redován, in two individual rooms where two of the members were staying. In said search, one of the detainees actively resisted arrest, while the other jumped through a backyard of the same trying to escape. However, the agents managed to stop both, successfully culminating the exploitation of the operation.
As a result of the searches carried out, and the investigations carried out by the agents, the Civil Guard arrested the seven members of this gang. The detainees, all with police records for similar events, have been placed at the disposal of the Orihuela Guard Court of Instruction, which has ordered the imprisonment of four of them, including the leader. The rest have been released with charges.
The Civil Guard was able to recover numerous material, highlighting: eight motor vehicles that were listed as stolen; various computer equipment; jewelry, watches and fashion accessories; specific material for DIY and mechanics; tools of all kinds; small household appliances; sports and leisure equipment, such as bicycles and electric scooters; clothing; and utensils for personal use. Also, many of the effects have already been delivered to their rightful owners. The Civil Guard continues with the investigations, since it is not ruled out that the number of those affected will increase. They are attributed, to date, 35 crimes of robbery with force, in addition to the crime of belonging to a criminal group.
