The United States requested the extradition of Juan Orlando Hernández for drug trafficking.

A judge of the Honduran Supreme Court issued “provisional detention” on Wednesday to former President Juan Orlando Hernández (2014-2022), after his capture on Tuesday in Tegucigalpa before a US request, for extradition purposes, for three charges associated with drug trafficking.

In the first hearing before a judge in the Supreme Court of Justice, Hernández was also scheduled for the second hearing, for the presentation of evidence, for March 16, the spokesman for the Judiciary, Melvin Duarte, told reporters.

The ex-governor, by resolution of the judge, was sent again to a special unit of the National Police, to which he was taken on Tuesday after being captured at his home.
