The reputation of Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has declined substantially in 2024. At the beginning of the year it was announced that 1,900 from Activision Blizzard lost their jobs. Later, titles that had been positioned as flagships of the company reached other platforms. Finally, this week the closure of Tango Gameworks and three other studios was announced. In many people’s eyes, Spencer is responsible, and a person decided to attack the director in Fallout 76completely destroying their camp.
A few hours ago, a post has gone viral where it has been revealed that Phil Spencer’s camp in Fallout 76 has been destroyed. Before 2024, this could be seen as a strong attack that would lead the community to search for and catch the criminal. However, Today it is celebrated as a form of protest against the decisions that Xbox has made throughout this year, even when the person responsible doesn’t see it that way.
In an interview with Kotaku, real1090jake, responsible for dropping a bomb on Phil Spencer’s home, revealed that this was his intention from the moment the campaign ended. Fallout 76 a couple of weeks ago, and It was a coincidence that it met its goal during a turbulent period for Xbox. This is what he said about it:
“It’s not much, since I’ve been planning to catch him for a while to see if he would agree to fight. Trying to defeat him was just a personal goal for me after finishing the main quest.
He was the final boss in my eyes. In an RPG I prefer to be the bad guy.
I joked about attacking him because he hurt our feelings… [pero] It has been my mission weeks before.
This was a calculated attack lol. I don’t have a problem with Phil. “Phil is great, Fallout 76 is great.”

Even if real1090jake did not plan this attack as a form of protest for the recent closure of Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, much of the community has taken this event as a banner, and a clear demonstration that Phil Spencer’s reputation is no longer the same as before. On related topics, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II would arrive on PlayStation 5. Likewise, a former Xbox worker receives a tasteless gift.
Author’s Note:
It is clear that Phil Spencer’s reputation is not the same as it once was. The decisions that have been made at Xbox, whether he was responsible or not, have to have a face to the public, and in this duress it was Spencer, and it is likely that he will not be able to recover from this blow.
