One of the most important news networks in Russia, ‘Channel One’ went viral on Monday, March 14, when a woman with an anti-war banner was seen on the air walking behind the presenter.
Although the news anchor didn’t seem to flinch and they quickly moved on to a news story outside the studio, there was enough time for viewers to read the message. Now it is known that the woman is missing and even the Russian authorities described her as a ‘hooligan’.
“Not to the war. Stop the war, don’t believe the propaganda. They are lying to you here.” These strong phrases could be read on the banner carried by Marina Ovsiannikova, editor of another section of the channel.

After his appearance on the national television screen, he is presumed to have been imprisonedbut it is not known of his whereabouts.
‘Channel One’ is one of the most watched channels in Russia and the message shared by Ovsiannikova breaks the gag law on the media that was approved on March 4, in which they cannot report on the situation in Ukraine with words like ‘ war’, ‘attack’ or ‘invasion’.
The law is so extensive that it provides penalties of up to 15 years for spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Army. According to the Spanish newspaper ‘La Razón’, the sentence can be increased from three to between five and ten years in the case of Ovsiannikova if a judge considers that her intervention in the news has socially dangerous consequences.
On his Twitter account, Marina Ovsiannikova’s lawyer, Pavel Chikov, reported that the journalist had been detained and that more than 12 hours had passed since her arrest. Since then he has had no further information about her. Chikov expects her to be fined between 30,000 and 60,000 rubles (between one and two million Colombian pesos).
‘We remain silent in the face of this inhumane regime’
In addition to her interruption from the air show, Ovsiannikova also posted a video apologizing for having participated in creating pro-Kremlin propaganda on ‘Channel One.’
In it he pointed out that the full responsibility for what is happening in the conflict in Ukraine rests with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia.
(In context: Russia: journalist goes live against the war in Ukraine).

Fear not, you can’t arrest us all
“I am ashamed for allowing lies to air on television,” said the journalist and editor.
He also expressed that he has felt responsible for the “zombification” of the Russian people. This act of rebellion of hers has not been isolated, thousands of people have been arrested in protests against the invasion in Ukraine.
(Before leaving: At least 2 dead in new attack in residential area of kyiv).
In addition, the journalist invited them to continue protesting: “Don’t be afraid, they can’t arrest us all.” Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov described Ovsinnikova’s actions as vandalism and assured that it would not be the channel that would be responsible for the consequences to the journalist but the Kremlin itself.
International concern continues waiting for information about Ovsiannikova’s whereabouts to be released and that she is safe. Marina Ovsiannikova is the mother of two daughters who await her return.
This news comes just a few hours after the death of American journalist Brent Renaud was reported, allegedly at the hands of the Russian Armed Forces in war zones of the conflict in Ukraine.
