CDMX .- The inhabitants of Villa de El Triunfo, a community in the municipality of Balancán, Tabasco, where a Mayan Train station will be located and a Chinese sleeper factory for the rails of the tracks is already operating, denounced damages caused by this work , as well as the breach of the promises of the federal government.
“With the installation of the Chinese camp, the electrical energy service has been affected, since we suffer from voltage variation and power suspension for several hours and many times a day, as a consequence, electrical appliances are damaged,” they indicated on 11 September in a petition addressed to the director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), Javier May, responsible for the Mayan Train.
The inhabitants of the town, located almost on the border with Guatemala, also denounced the destruction of the streets by the passage of heavy machinery from the Mota-Engil company, which was awarded Section 1 of the Train for 15 thousand 538 million of weights; the destruction of the drainage and the drinking water pipe, both by heavy trucks and by works to lay the tracks, and the threat that the passage from one side of the town to the other will be cut off and that two crossings will be placed pedestrian but at the ends of El Triunfo.
“We are aware that the works of the Mayan Train will bring progress to our community, but the price that the inhabitants are currently paying is expensive,” they affirmed. The next day, the population blocked the works.
The effects and abandonment of El Triunfo were denounced in August last year by the REFORMA Group: electricity failures that were aggravated by the factory of the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), destroyed roads, lack of ambulances, destruction of the sports area and non-compliance by the Government regarding the relocation of the water pump, road paving and construction of a drinking water treatment plant. Then, in his morning, López Obrador denied that the residents were upset.
“Those from El Triunfo and those from Balancán are happy with the work of the Train and also with Sembrando Vida, only those who are not happy are those from REFORMA,” he assured. “There is going to be a station in El Triunfo and that is going to give El Triunfo life again,” he insisted.
Although the annoyance and abandonment continue.
“The companies are making their money, while we have the issue that all the refrigerators in town have gone bad, the televisions and the food. I started a small seafood business and I couldn’t continue because every day they broke down. losing due to the voltage of the electricity,” accused a resident during last week’s blockade of that part of the Mayan Train, a 1,500-kilometer project through the Yucatan Peninsula, originally priced at 150 billion pesos, but which In 2022 alone, it received 62 billion and 143 billion more have been requested for the next.
“They are leaving a dump all over the town. They make ditches and break the pipe and go elsewhere. The electricity goes out, the drinking water, the children breathe the sewage that comes out of the broken drainage,” an official said by telephone. municipal. The residents asked not to publish their names for fear that the President will return to the issue in his morning, and because, they say, they are not opposed to the Train but to poorly executed works.
“We are fed up with so much deception, we do not have a model, we have not seen the sections of the Mayan Train. They come, they promise on paper that they are going to recompose the streets and they throw a little gravel, the machines come back picking it up, what is that? The children can’t even walk,” engineer Alejandro Vázquez accused in a video transmission.
After the works were blocked, Emilio Lara, a resident, stood on top of an excavator and read a list of new promises: repairing the streets, revising the water wells, a power bank for the solar panel pump, revising the crosswalk location and monthly meetings.
