Masks are here to stay. At least until the desired old normality is returned. And in those, you have to use them at any time and place if so stipulated. Also in the concerts, which are definitely very different from how we knew them. The musical performances have changed, now there is a safety distance between the attendees, who also in the vast majority of cases have to use a mask to prevent the circulation of the coronavirus.
The way of enjoying the concert, therefore, has changed and the organizers are working to make the experience as similar as possible to the pre-pandemic concerts. And in this sense, the prestigious Hungarian conductor Ivan Fischer, conductor of the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFZ), has presented a unique mask with two plastic hands that are attached to the ears and that improves the way of living the concert. The two life-size transparent plastic hands are placed around the ears and sound perception is optimized.
In the video presentation of the innovative mask, Fischer recalls the words of Mozart, who said that “You have to turn necessity into virtue”. “Now many use masks, something they consider a necessity, which at the same time offers a possibility to improve acoustics “adds the director of the BFZ.
Music sounds “warmer and louder”
Regarding the characteristics of the mask, Fischer specifies that by putting the cupped hands behind the ears the music sounds “warmer and stronger” and the sound “is much more beautiful.” The novel invention is already on sale at the BFZ office for a price of 22 euros.
At the moment, the mask is only available in Hungary and BFZ concert goers will be able to start using it now, since the recitals that are currently being offered require the use of the mask to their assistants. The orchestra leadership has warned about the importance of using this protective element and so that the sound of their performances remains the same as always they have created this mask.
Interest around the world
The mask, moreover, may soon become a worldwide phenomenon. As explained by a BFZ spokesperson, It has already aroused international interest and countries such as Japan, China, the United States and Mexico have already asked for a mask, which has become one of the main elements in the life of the new normal.
