The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo Lopez Gatellconfirmed this Saturday the official record of the first case of monkeypox in Mexico in which it was detected in a male patient who was isolated and is cared for in a Mexico City hospital.
It’s about a 50 year old man, permanent resident of New York Citythe United States, who probably spread from person to person by direct contact in the Netherlands.
The investigative epidemiologist indicated that this Saturday the federal level authorities confirm the first imported case of monkeypox in Mexicowho “fortunately, is stable and in preventive isolation”.
López-Gatell clarified to the population in general that monkeypox is spread from person to person by direct contactnamely, not spread by air, water or food.
He also explained that the efficiency of contagion of monkeypox is low, so they generally present isolated cases or small outbreaksnot generalized epidemics like the one recently experienced by Covid-19.
“We hope he recovers without complications,” the federal-level official posted on his Twitter account.
